Diocesan Convention 2019

The 149th Annual Diocesan Convention, October 18 through October 19 was held at the Zembo Shrine in Harrisburg, PA. This year, the theme was “Shaped by Faith.” Shaped by Faith focuses on the invitation to discern the future of our diocese together, in the next two years.

Registration began Friday, October 18 and was held in the lobby of the Zembo Shrine, and the Ministry Fair was on display in the Tile Room. Our keynote speaker was American Architect, Duo Dickinson, Jr. Following the keynote speaker, a service of Evensong was held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Harrisburg.

On Saturday, October 19, Convention began at the Zembo at 9 a.m., and the study of scripture, liturgy and Eucharist was woven into the schedule of the day.

This year at diocesan convention, we collected donations for The Beacon Clinic for Health and Hope in Harrisburg. The Beacon Clinic is a faith-based, FREE primary healthcare clinic serving the uninsured and underserved in the Greater Harrisburg communities. Keynote Speaker American Architect, Duo Dickinson, Jr.

Both prolific and protean, George A. “Duo” Dickinson identifies as a building architect who writes. His varied accomplishments include awards, books, articles, radio programs, teaching, lectures, exhibitions, and community work.

Dickinson graduated with a bachelor of architecture in the fall of 1977. He opened his solo architecture practice 30 years ago in southern Connecticut. More than one-third of his work starts as pro bono for nonprofit organizations and often finishes for whatever funding is available, including approximately 80 homes for Habitat For Humanity in New Haven, Connecticut.

Dickinson has received more than 40 honors and awards, including Architectural Record’s Record House, Met Home, and numerous American Institute of Architects (AIA) chapter design awards. In 2017, he was named an AIA Fellow after being a member for the minimum requisite decade. He is a cofounder of the Congress of Residential Architecture (CORA) and coauthor of its flagship Position Paper presented at the 2009 AIA National Convention.

Dickinson has given more than 100 talks and sat on more than 20 design juries. He has had teaching positions at Yale University and Roger Williams University. As well as being a visiting critic at Yale, and he is on the faculty of Building Beauty, the one-year international first-level master of architecture degree offered at Sant’Anna Institute, Sorrento Italy.
